Zionism. Discourses - Positions - Contradictions
In this four-day seminar, we will explore the diversity of Zionist ideas and movements - from the beginnings in the 19th century to the present day. The focus will be on examining the plural of Zionism: religious, cultural, socialist, revisionist and post-Zionist theories and practices will be reconstructed and discussed.
In times when "Zionism" is often treated as a monolithic enemy, a differentiated, historical and political perspective is more necessary than ever. We ask: What Zionist movements were and are there? How did they develop - and how do they differ? What does it mean to refer to Zionist ideas today?
Together we want to create a space for knowledge, contradiction and dialog - historically informed, politically sensitive and open to ambivalence.
The seminar is organized by the Central Council of Jews in Germany together with ELES (Ernst Ludwig Ehrlicher Studienwerk) in cooperation with the HfJS Heidelberg and JSUD (Jewish Student Union Germany).
The participation fee is 50€, including board and lodging during the conference (places are very limited!)
