Professorships / positions in the scientific field

Candidates should have an international reputation of interdisciplinary scholarship in one or more of the following areas:

The appointee will join the Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies and will be expected to direct the Master of Education program in Jewish Religious Education, develop and teach courses at both B.A. and M.A. levels, publish high-quality research, apply for third-party funding, engage in administrative duties, provide leadership and mentorship roles, as well as participate in academic and professional activities.
Regarding the Master of Education program in Jewish Religious Education, the appointee will be expected to work closely with the University of Heidelberg's School of Education. The appointee is
furthermore expected to be willing to actively collaborate with Jewish communities, schools, and educational organizations in Germany.
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms of private law. In addition to the general employment regulations of § 47 of the LHG [state higher education law of Baden-Württemberg], required qualifications for the W2 professorship include a completed program of university studies in the field, pedagogical aptitude and an exceptional capacity for academic research as demonstrated by an outstanding PhD dissertation in a qualifying area, as well as additional academic publications of proven excellence.
In accordance with § 51, par. 2 of the LHG [state higher education law of Baden-Württemberg], required qualifications for the W1 professorship include a completed program of university studies,
pedagogical aptitude, which is, as a rule, to be demonstrated by experience in teaching or training, and an exceptional capacity for academic research, which, as a rule, should be demonstrated by a
PhD dissertation of outstanding quality. This junior professorship is intended as a tenure-track position. The attainment of suitable achievements in research and teaching will be reviewed as part

A willingness to procure outside funding, to participate in academic self-governance, and to seek collaboration with Heidelberg University are prerequisites. The languages of instruction are German

Positions in the non-scientific area

The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg is seeking to fill the position of a cook (m/f/d) for the canteen (part-time position 25%) as soon as possible, initially for a limited period of one year.

Subsequent employment is planned.

The kosher canteen is primarily used to provide students and staff with lunch. It also provides catering for university events and Shabbat celebrations.
The area of responsibility includes in particular

  • Preparation and cooking of kosher and dairy dishes
  • Professional guidance of the student assistants
  • Organization of food distribution
  • Compliance with food and hygiene regulations and safety standards

Your profile:

  • Completed vocational training as a cook or several years of relevant professional experience
  • Ability to work independently and in a structured manner, taking into account economic aspects
  • An open and positive personality
  • Commitment, ability to work in a team and reliability

Assistants

Student Assistant (m/f/d) from October 1, 2024 (limited until March 31, 2025) at the Chair of Jewish Religious Education, Pedagogy and Didactics with an employment period of 15 hours per month


The duties include in particular

In the long-term project (12 years; 2018-29) Corpus Masoreticum: Die Inkulturation der Masora in die jüdische Gelehrsamkeit Westeuropas im 12.-14. Jh. Digitale Erschließung einer vergessenen Wissenskultur an der Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg sind zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt 2 Stellen einer geprüften und/oder ungeprüften wissenschaftlichen Hilfskraft (m/w/d; Umfang von 20-40 Stunden / Monat; die Arbeitszeit kann individuell vereinbart werden) to be filled.

We are looking for research assistants for the areas of Digital Humanities and general activities.
The positions are initially limited until 31.07.2024 (end of project phase 2), but have an extension option. The call for applications is aimed at students who are enrolled at the Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies or at another university. A place of residence in Heidelberg is not mandatory, as the collaboration can also be organized digitally.
The long-term project Corpus Masoreticum: Die Inkulturation der Masora in die jüdische Gelehrsamkeit Westeuropas im 12.-14. Jh. Digitale Erschließung einer vergessenen Wissenskultur (Corpus Masoreticum: The Inculturation of the Masora into Jewish Scholarship in Western Europe in the 12th-14th Centuries), which was established by the German Research Foundation in 2018, is the first project to comprehensively edit, process and document the Western European (Ashkenazi) Masora tradition between the 12th and 14th centuries. it differs from the Oriental masora not only philologically, but also in its external appearance as a masora figurata, which indicates that the masora was received in a very special way among the Jews of Western Europe.
