Internationalization Team

The Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies (HfJS) is characterized by a high degree of internationalization, as evidenced, for example, by the fact that some courses are taught in English as part of an international cooperative degree program, as well as by the internationalization initiatives it has pursued in recent years. On this basis, the university has set the goal of continuously developing itself as a European center of excellence for Jewish Studies, with the aim of opening up new perspectives for the transfer of knowledge at both the national and international levels.

Currently, the HfJS maintains institutional partnerships with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba (Israel), Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan (Israel), the Institute for Jewish Studies at the University of Vienna, and the Central European University (CEU) in Vienna (Austria), the University of Graz (Austria), the University of Innsbruck (Austria), the Center for Jewish Cultural History at the University of Salzburg (Austria), and Paideia, The European Institute for Jewish Studies in Stockholm (Sweden). In addition, collaborative working relationships with institutions in Argentina, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, and the United States have already been established at individual Chairs of the HfJS.

To further expand the internal and external internationalization of the HfJS, the Internationalization Office was established and began its work in December 2022. It provides administrative support to the university leadership in maintaining and further developing existing international partnerships and joint degree programs, as well as in establishing new exchange programs for faculty and student mobility. Furthermore, it coordinates collaboration with the University of Heidelberg in the area of internationalization and develops a long-term, sustainable internationalization strategy at the institutional level.
