Shavuot, the Jewish Feast of Weeks, begins tonight. Among other things, it celebrates the receiving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. At the same time, the promise, the covenant with God, is renewed. Shavuot is also the festival of firstfruits and the wheat harvest. And, appropriately for us, the focus is traditionally on learning. Incidentally, we also eat - Prof. em.
