Special Screening of Block 10
In collaboration with the Gloria Kino, we are screening the film “Block 10” (Germany 2026, directed by Marcus O. Rosenmüller, 103 min., FSK 16). The film tells the story of Jewish women who were forced to undergo medical experiments in “Block 10” at the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1943—and of their struggle for dignity, survival, and mutual support. The film also centers on the Jewish gynecologist Dr. Maximilian Samuel, who, as the prisoners’ doctor, is torn between coercion, guilt, and the attempt to save lives.
Following the screening , Rabbi Prof. Dr. Birgit Klein, professor of the history of the Jewish people at the Heidelberg College of Jewish Studies, and Prof. Dr. Karen Nolte, Director of the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine at Heidelberg University, will discuss the historical context, questions of medical ethics, and the film’s significance for the culture of remembrance.
