Watch the Abraham Berliner Lecture online

News Press

This year's Abraham Berliner Lecture was held by Prof. Dr. Katrin Kogman-Appel, Professor of Jewish Art History at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.
She is one of the internationally renowned experts in Jewish book and art history and conducts research in particular on the visual and material culture of Judaism in the Middle Ages and early modern period.

In her lecture "Jewish cultural politics in Istanbul after 1492: The repertoire of the Ibn Nahmias printing house (1493-1520)", she shed light on the period after the expulsion of the Jews from the Iberian Peninsula and the development of Jewish life in Istanbul. The central question was what significance the Jewish printing house Ibn Nahmias, founded in 1493, had for the development of religious life, cultural self-positioning and the formation of a Sephardic identity.
