Eugen Täubler Lecture & Conferral of the Title of Honorary Senator

On 17.12.2025 we cordially invite you to this year's Täubler Lecture at the Heidelberg School of Jewish Studies.
Prof. Kai Trampedach (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg) will speak on the topic: "Alexander and the High Priest. On the discursive disempowerment of imperial rule in Jewish literature of the Hellenistic and Roman periods"
The lecture is dedicated to the question of how Jewish authors in antiquity and late antiquity negotiated the political power relations of their time in literature and interpreted them in religious terms. Prof. Trampedach is an ancient historian with a focus on Greek history, political theory and the history of religion in antiquity.
Following the lecture, Prof. Dr. h.c. Salomon Korn will be made an Honorary Senator of the Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies . In doing so, the university is honoring his outstanding commitment to Judaism in Germany, his many years of mediation work between the Jewish and non-Jewish public and his services as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Dr. Korn was also significantly involved in the realization of the new building of the university, which was ceremoniously opened on 30 September 2009 - a milestone in the development and visibility of Jewish life in Heidelberg and Germany.
