Perspectives on the prevention of antisemitism in school and extracurricular contexts after October 7, 2023

"Educational spaces are places where conflicts in society as a whole are evident and where anti-Semitic statements are often particularly visible. This has become even clearer since the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel and the subsequent war. Without intervention, discriminatory and radicalizing attitudes can harden. Preventing anti-Semitism in schools and other educational settings is therefore a key component in making our society strong against anti-Semitism in all its manifestations."
Karin Prien has been Federal Minister of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth since 2025. She was previously Minister for Education, Science and Culture in Schleswig-Holstein and served as President of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs in 2022. After studying law in Bonn and Freiburg, she worked as a lawyer for several years. She is deputy federal chairwoman of the CDU and is particularly committed to equal opportunities, democratic education and social cohesion.
