Invisible in the center of society? Show your face against Antisemitism!
The Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies is participating in the art and education project "Invisible in the middle of society? Showing your face against Antisemitism!", which will take place from November 20, 2025 to January 27, 2026 in cooperation with the Schwetzingen Adult Education Center and is generously funded by the Baden-Württemberg State Government Commissioner against Anti-Semitism and for Jewish Life.
the exhibition focuses on impressive photographic portraits of people of Jewish and non-Jewish origin, supplemented by personal statements on the subject of Antisemitism. The photographs are deliberately presented in a mixed format in order to dissolve boundaries of belonging and focus on individual experiences of social interaction.
the project opens up a stage for openness, diverse exchange and reflection: In addition to the vernissage on November 20, 2025 at 6 pm in the VHS Gallery Schwetzingen, various lectures with scientists from the HfJS Heidelberg as well as a film screening followed by a discussion are planned. The topics range from left-wing and socio-political forms of Antisemitism to historical and current hostility towards Jews.
the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien sees the participation as an important signal for strengthening the dialog about Antisemitism in public and promoting knowledge and empathy. The exhibition and the accompanying program invite all interested parties to engage with the topic, examine their own perspectives and set an example for cohesion and resistance against all forms of hatred towards Jews.
