Book Presentation on Berthold Epstein

History of the Jewish people Book Presentation

With the book "In the grey areas of history - The Prague paediatrician Berthold Epstein (1890 - 1962)", Dr. Vera Trnka and Dr. Stephan Heinrich Nolte pay tribute to a special person who was deported to Auschwitz as a Jew and had to conduct research there in the service of Mengele, while his wife was murdered. A Czech-Jewish-German fate from the Danube Monarchy to the socialist post-war period.

Dr. Vera Trnka, daughter of Auschwitz survivors, was Epstein's patient as a child, while Dr. Nolte studied medicine as well as cultural studies. He works as a pediatrician and psychotherapist.

The book presentation will be moderated by Heidrun Helwig (Documentation and Cultural Center of German Sinti and Roma) and David Lüllemann (Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies).
