Requirements
For Bachelor degree programmes: Beyond the Allgemeine Hochschulreife or an equivalent secondary school degree qualifying the holder for university study there are no further study requirements.
Those interested in studying at the Hochschule should be willing to learn the Hebrew language in its various language levels. Furthermore, potential students should express interest in the diversity of Jewish religion and culture.
For the Master’s degree programme Jewish Studies (Jüdische Studien): a degree in the Bachelor’s programme Jewish Studies or study programmes with generally equivalent content, as well as proof of the Hebraicum. For more details, please refer to the Admission Regulations and the Examination Regulations for the M.A. Jewish Studies. This consecutive Master’s degree is selective and requires an application before enrolment can take place.

The M.A. Jewish Studies – History of Jewish Cultures (Joint Degree) (Jüdische Studien – Geschichte jüdischer Kulturen): requires a Bachelor’s degree in a cultural science, social science, humanities or theological discipline (for example in Jewish Studies, history, German Studies, other disciplines of literature, theology, philosophy, Religious Studies, Islamic Studies, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, art history or sociology). A maximum of 20 students will be admitted each year. Students apply to the respective study coordinator (in Heidelberg: Prof. Dr. Viktor Golinets) at the home university of their choice.

Required documents
For admission, the following documents must generally be submitted:
- Proof of public or private health insurance policy
- Certificate of the Allgemeine Hochschulreife or an equivalent qualification, recognised by a legal decree or a respective government office
- Identification document
- Proof of matriculation at the University of Heidelberg (can be handed in later)
Double matriculation: step by step
- Download the application for matriculation at the HfJS online as a PDF-document, print and send to the HfJS secretary’s office, or complete and hand it in in person
- Wait for confirmation of matriculation
- Matriculate at the University of Heidelberg: bring your original proof of matriculation at the Hochschule; an overview about matriculation at the University of Heidelberg and further information is available here. (The application for enrolment is available from mid-August and will be linked here)
- Hand in proof of matriculation at the University of Heidelberg at the secretary’s office at the Hochschule
The matriculation deadlines at the HfJS are oriented towards those of the University of Heidelberg.
